Bandit, why are you so crazy?
We rescued Bandit living with 10 other cats and owners that didn’t want him. Bandit was about 3 months (now he is 3) and the only thing he knew was to go in the litter box. Other than that we had to teach this crazy cat some rules. He was stubborn but a spray bottle filled with water and a quirt or two he would eventually learn some house rules.
Don’t climb my curtains and stay off my counter!!
Bandit would climb my curtains and scratch my blinds to where they had to be replaced. I don’t think this cat had any teaching at all. So here comes the spray bottle. Every time he went up my curtains I would squirt him with water.
Every time he got on my counter (oh, I hate that) I would squirt him. He finally learned, but it took awhile. When I am asleep he wants to dig his claws into the bottom of my feet. It is difficult to wake up and squirt him with the spray bottle before he has disappeared. I am so happy that he got out of that habit and does not do that anymore.
He is so lovable and loved to snuggle up with us, he would put his paw around my neck like he was hugging me. His motor would start purring and he loved his chin scratched. We had him neutered when he was old enough. He was still lovable after being neutered (I thought he might be mad at us) and as he got older his crazy personality showed. Crazy, strange or was it just normal for him?
Why are you running Outside?
He was so lovable, soft and cuddly but why is he running outside? Both the dogs would stay when the front door opened but not Bandit, he ran out. Not far just under the bush by the door, to the sidewalk and once in a while he would go under the neighbors truck. Why? I did not know. I must investigate this.
Well after many times of this happening I realized why he did this. He could see the bottom of the food bowl. When he could see the bottom of the food bowl he ran out the door. I also realized that if the water bowl was low he would run out the door. Oh my, what is wrong with this cat. Doesn’t he realize that the food and water are still in the house? If he goes outside that means he can’t get to his food and water.
I thought that maybe it was something that happened to him before he came here. I am not sure but I make sure that he doesn’t see the bottom of the bowl or that the water bowl is never low. It is annoying to me when I have to go out after dark with a flashlight and look for him under my neighbors truck.
So when he doesn’t run out the door he will lay in the middle of the kitchen floor when I am trying to cook. Or he will walk in front of me very slowly. So I go look at the food bowl to make sure that it is full and check the water dish. Sometimes he does it because he wants attention.
Not a Normal Cat
I always thought that Bandit was a strange cat through his behavior. Normal cats don’t want to get stepped on and they will move, but not Bandit, he lays or walks right in front of us. Normal cats don’t snuggle with pit bulls, Bandit does. Bandit loves to curl up next to our pit bull (TeTe) and snuggle and then fall asleep.
Normal cats don’t like to be outside. Bandit doesn’t like being outside but he can see the bottom of his food or water bowl. Bandit is not the norm for a cat but he is the norm for us. We have gotten used to his behavior as well.
Bandit sleeps on his back with his paws out. Sometimes he looks like he is dead, especially when his eyes are not closed all the way. It was scary the first time. Now we are used to our crazy cat.
Cats Do Not Like to Get Wet.
Most cats that I know do not like to get wet but not Bandit. He would run into the bathroom when we are running water and jump up on the sink or side of the bathtub and start batting at the water with his paw. He even accidentally fell into the bathtub and got wet. He jumped back up onto the side and continued batting at the water coming at of the faucet.
Bandit and Baby get along, but they are not ones that will snuggle together. Baby is high strung and Bandit is laid back and mellow. When they sleep they are sometimes near each other. I think it might be by accident or they are too tired and just don’t care.
Recently I started limiting his food intake since he was 18 pounds. Baby only weighs 9.9 pounds and Bandit has her beat. He is not happy with my decision and frequently tries getting outside or is meowing at me. We will weigh him again in a couple weeks and see how he is doing.
Bandit is a cuddly crazy cat with unusual behaviors. We have learned what his behaviors mean (most of them). We love this furry cat and we laugh at the strange ways that he will sleep or the things he does. Bandit will play with his toys but his favorite toy is a bread tie. He will play forever with a bread tie until he loses it under the fridge. I just give him another bread tie and when I clean under there that is when I get them out for him.
